This is Tita Evertsz and the teachers at “La Escuelita”. They are an amazing group of people who have given their lives to serve and invest in the lives of the children of La Limonada.
Beginning in 1994, Tita (in the middle of the photo with the glasses) began working with gang members and the people of La Limonada through her church. After doing that work as a volunteer for 6 years and seeing so many gang members die and children swept into the gangs, she followed the passion of her heart to give her life to serving the people of this community.
In 2000 a school was established with a small group of children and now reaches more than 200 children with a program called “Vidas Plenas” (“Full Lives” in English). These teachers serve the children (who in many cases would not otherwise go to school) every day with love, education, tutoring, faith-based instruction, meals, help with hygeine, and hope for a better future.
They are now venturing into another neighborhhood of La Limonada (prieviously closed to them because of gang activity) to establish another school. This is an incredible group of people who need your prayers and support as they deal with very difficult situations in the lives of the children every day.
Please pray for more male teachers and for more teachers in general to meet the growing needs in La Limonada.
