Reflection For The Week

“Bernard of Clairvaux, a contemporary of St. Francis of Assisi more than 850 years ago, captured the essence of what it means to be an authentic learner as well as the goal of authentic learning:

There are those who seek knowledge for the sake of knowledge; That is curiosity.

There are those who seek knowledge to be known by others; That is vanity.

There are those who seek knowledge in order to serve; That is love.

There is a reciprocal relationship between action and understanding. God has designed us in such a way that we don’t fully know something until we have acted on it. And when we take action, especially in the form of service, it cements our understanding, sealing the truth in our souls and leading us to live out God’s love.”
