January marks the beginning of the school year in Guatemala. Before the classrooms are filled with students, registration, meetings, and training must take place. This week started an intensive process for the staff at both schools in preparation for the return of the children.
As all the teachers and staff sat in the meeting room on Monday, the air filled with a sense of anticipation. After the schools shut down in early November, it’s obvious that everyone is anxiously awaiting the new school year. Classes don’t actually begin until the first week in February, leaving the month of January open for teacher education, training, and the strengthening of the camaraderie of the staff as a whole.
The majority of the meeting was spent in discussion about transformation through the Holy Spirit. In order for us to serve better, we need to let the Holy Spirit transform our interactions with others and with Him. Tita outlined a few verses, including Romans 12:1-2. Allowing the Holy Spirit to transform hearts is what’s going to really strengthen the relationship and mission of the staff.
Please keep the children and team in your thoughts and prayers as the new year brings joys, heartache, growth, and trials.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12: 1-2
