Jude Reiss’ parents set up a Lemonade Stand to celebrate his 4th birthday on February 29 – Leap Day 2012. Not only did Jude’s family and friends rally together to raise $1,021.96 to support the Safe Home, but the Welsh family who gave to support his Lemonade Stand also decided to sponsor a child.
We first learned about Lemonade international when Jude had his birthday party. We were immediately interested, and knowing the Reiss family I knew this had to be a worthy cause. So we made our donation online and I started looking around on the site. I couldn’t help but be drawn to the child sponsorship program, and I felt like it was something that my family and I needed to do to help give back.
My kids are 3 and 7 and we regularly talk about the child we sponsor and we keep her picture in our kitchen with our other family photos. My youngest is so fascinated with the community and he likes to ask questions about the country. He has asked several times to see where Guatemala is on the globe. He has even started referring to our sponsored child as his sister. It is such a wonderful feeling to know that you have a positive influence on the lives of others.
A big thank you goes out to Jude Reiss and his family and the Welsh family for joining your lives with the people of La Limonada and standing in solidarity with them to provide hope.
