Help Send A Child To Arts Camp 2010

We’re excited to announce the 3rd Annual “Arts Camp” for children from the schools in La Limonada!

The past two years we have been able to support the incredible efforts of BuildaBridge, and  Estrategia de Transformación as they have provided a week filled with the transformative power of the arts to bring hope and healing to the children of La Limonada.

Each of the past two years more than 100 children have been able to travel up to the coast to a beautiful retreat center in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala to experience Arts Camp – five days full of freedom, blue skies, art therapy, love, and fun along the never-ending shoreline. You can read more about the past two Arts Camp here.

Most of the children have never been to the beach – much less outside of the city. Because they’re not used to riding in cars … the five-hour bus ride took almost eight hours last year due to motion sickness and frequent bathroom stops. But even the long ride helped to create lifelong memories for the children and everyone involved.

In order to make Arts Camp a reality, volunteer workers fly in from all over the world – yoga instructors, dance teachers, professional painters, sculptors and musicians give the children an opportunity to express themselves through these various forms of art – bringing hope and healing to their hearts.

The theme for this year’s camp is “Present and Future.” The children will be learning how their decisions today directly affect their lives tomorrow. According to behavior, attendance, maturity and age, 93 children from the schools in La Limonada have been chosen to participate this year. 35 additional children from VSarts (an arts organization for people with disabilities) and Sonrisas (a ministry to children whose parents are workers in the public cemetery in Guatemala City) will also have the opportunity to be a part of this year’sArts Camp – which will take place November 22-26.

A majority of the costs of Arts Camp have been provided through grants and other donations that will cover all costs directly related to activities at the retreat center (food, lodging and activities).

We are asking that you would prayerfully consider helping to send one of the children to Arts Camp with a donation of $50 to help with the costs of transportation and related supplies. You can give a secure donation of $50 per child (or a donation of any amount) online on our Donation Page. When making your donation please select the “Sponsor A Child” fund and type “Arts Camp” in the comments box.

We are grateful for any help you are able to provide that will go toward making this incredible experience a reality for the children.

Everything that you do is such a blessing for these children. There are no words to explain how love transcends countries and cultures. Thank you so very much. Today you are helping to give the children a future that they never could have imagined without your involvement in their lives.
