Celebrating Our Third Anniversary Today

Three years ago today, Lemonade International was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the State of North Carolina after countless hours of prayer, and months of hard work from a core group of people (including Tita Evertsz, Leah Craver, Donnie Long, Cherie Cummings and me).

While this is significant to us and a cause to celebrate, our primary focus has never been on the official documentation, paperwork, structure and organizational side of things. All of those things are important and have their place, but as we look back over the past three years the most significant thing to us is the relationships that have been formed.

Our friendship with Tita is one of those rare, below-the-surface, in the soil of the ground type relationships that is at the root of the formation of our work. Her heart of love, compassion, respect and honor for the La Limonada community is what pulled us into what God is doing there seven years ago, in 2004. And that is what keeps us intimately connected today.

Over the years, our friendships have extended to the incredible team of people who serve in La Limoanda along with Tita, who are some of our closest friends in the world. Their strength, commitment and heart to serve children and families is a true example of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

And as we reflect on the last three years, we think of you. Some of you are family members, some are friends who go way back, and some of you we have met through this connection we now have to the people of La Limonada. God has used this work to connect our hearts and form friendships we are extremely grateful for.

Thank you for being a part of a community… a tribe of people who have displayed love in action, serving the people of La Limonada with your time, your prayers and your money.

In three years we have seen a second school established, more than 350 children and 20 teachers and staff members sponsored, a church community formed, a safe home begun that rescues children from abuse and neglect, several interns sent to Guatemala to serve and hundreds of people visit, and make friends with and learn from the people of La Limonada.

So, we are reminded today how beautiful it is when a community of people join together for the good of the world – joining in on God’s plan to love, restore and redeem people.

Thank you for choosing to see the beauty in the people of La Limonada. As Tita says, thank you for allowing La Limonada to be “tattooed on your hearts”!

Gracias por ser parte de nuestra comunidad.
